Cybersecurity risk assessments for SAP HANA systems relied on a lot of manual expert work, which included multiple Excel sheets of over a thousand cells to check.
Challenge
Every system needed the same careful checks, and doing them by hand took a great deal of time.
Approach
- Automated data ingestion into a database.
- Designed SQL queries to model the data and calculate the risk assessment.
Outcome
What took 2 months of work, now could be done in a few hours.
What I learned
Automating expert work starts with understanding the business. Ingesting the data is straightforward, but modeling the risk calculations requires subject matter knowledge.
